The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate in Dr. Stephen Nimer's laboratory. This individual will be responsible for the design and conduct of research into the pathogenesis of human hematologic malignancies. He or she will work independently designing, carrying out, and critiquing experiments. This individual will have sophisticated knowledge of molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, or mouse modeling of human cancer. He or she will be able to initiate collaborations with scientists within the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center or elsewhere. Duties may include, but are not limited to, performing complex laboratory assignments, including the planning and conducting of projects related to understanding the pathogenesis of human hematologic malignancies; scheduling and performing experiments in research laboratory including tissue culture, retroviral or lentiviral transduction of human or mouse cells, routine molecular biology such as QPCR, western blots, preparation of RNA or DNA for gene expression profiling, methylation studies or genomic analysis. Also includes solving problems in scientific and technical execution, interpret experimental data and maintaining accurate records; maintaining accurate records of research findings and the analysis of the results; assisting in the preparation of data and figures for manuscripts and for scientific presentations using Power Point, and other graphics software as needed; searching literature for references to technical problems and keep informed by reading technical journal and publications; presenting data in laboratory meetings and other venues; preparing manuscripts for publication in collaboration with PI and lab members; ensuring and documenting laboratory adherence to safety standards, especially in the use of hazardous items; assisting with the implementation of new program and initiatives; and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students as appropriate.

 

The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Life Science, Oncology and/or other related fields. Must be able to work with minimum direct supervision and independent judgment is required. Excellent skills in computer and English (both verbal and written) required.
